My Story
The first story I ever wrote was in Mrs. Gertsen's 2nd Grade class. It was a war story involving two sides, gophers and squirrels, and ended when the leader of the squirrels was assassinated...
I know what you are thinking. Why would any war end with a simple assassination? Forgive my 2nd Grade mind. In the end, my teacher made me change the ending so it was less violent. Bless her feeble heart.

Three grades later, I would become exposed to one of the biggest influences in my life that would carry forward into adulthood. My 5th Grade teacher, Mr. Walsh, read to us J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. From that day forward, I was obsessed with drawing maps of my own created worlds and writing stories like the Tale of the Golden Sword (which has since been lost to the annals of time).

This passion carried into 6th Grade. While studying Ancient Egypt, and having just seen the Mummy Returns (2001) in theaters, I wrote a story about Imhotep raising the Army of the Dead to defeat the invading armies of Nubia.

The story of Egypt was just as important as the influence of Tolkien, for I became even more interested in history. Thanks to my father being the king of knowledge, I learned about Hannibal's invasion of Rome and about the engineering triumphs of World War II from the P-51 Mustang to the V-2 rocket.

It is no surprise then that I would end up being a writer for I get to do all the things I learned growing up...create worlds, draw maps, write stories, and make history. The Kaiser's Machines will be my first experiment in sharing these passions with you. In doing so, I hope I can not only entertain but transport you to another place and time, whether it ever existed or not.
